Introduction to Skating
Returning in October 2025
Part of our mission at the MDFSC is to support and share the love of ice skating with the Morgantown community.
With over 1,000 programs nationwide, Learn to Skate USA® offers beginner skating lessons to skaters of all ages and abilities by way of a trusted, standardized curriculum endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey and US Speedskating.
Here in Morgantown, this takes the form of group instruction in a quiet, safe, no pressure-environment with like-minded individuals. Our coaches are trained and certified yearly by Learn to Skate USA. Youth skaters looking to enter Figure Skating and Hockey make up the bulk of our new skaters, but there is also always a handful of collegiate and adult skaters looking to take their first step on the ice.
Let us know you’re interested and we’ll reach out once we have more details!

PROGRAM LEADERSHIP
Our fearless leader over the years
Our Learn to Skate program is led by our Skating Director and proud mother of two, Angela Barclay.
Angela brings more than 30 years of figure skating experience to the ice, blending a lifelong passion for skating with a dedication to teaching the next generation of skaters. She began her skating journey with the Johnstown Figure Skating Club in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where she was coached by Amir Babayev and George and Leila Shankulashvili. Over the years, Angela has had the privilege of training with world-renowned coaches, including Valentin Nikolayev (coached Oksana Baiul) and Rafael Arutyunyan—most famously known as Nathan Chen’s coach, as well as the coach of other elite skaters such as Ilia Malinin, Adam Rippon, Mariah Bell, Ashley Wagner, and Michelle Kwan.
Angela is a two-time U.S. Figure Skating Gold Medalist in both Moves in the Field and Free Skating. She has a strong competitive background and extensive coaching experience, having served as Skating Director at the Mason Dixon Figure Skating Club in prior years. In addition, she has led the Learn to Skate program in Morgantown, WV from 2014-2020, where she found great joy in fostering the skills and confidence of skaters of all ages and abilities.
After taking the past five years away from the rink to focus on her growing family, Angela—now the proud mother of a son and daughter—is excited to return to coaching. In addition to her coaching career, she works full-time as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Sleep Medicine at WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital, where her compassion and teaching skills extend beyond the rink.
Angela has a deep passion for helping skaters of all ages discover the joy of skating. Her goal is to share her knowledge, encourage a love for the sport, and contribute to the growth of the skating community in Morgantown, where she and her family make their home.
